Discover the Best State Parks in SC near Murrells Inlet

Surrounded by Atlantic coastal beauty, Inlet Sports Lodge in Murrells Inlet, SC, is almost like a mini-state park in its own right. The gorgeous Lowcountry marshes and sandy beaches, home to a diverse ecosystem and picturesque vistas, lend themselves to make our little slice of paradise an excellent basecamp for exploring the nearby recreation areas and state parks in SC. As much as we adore having visitors, we also don’t expect our guests to stay at the lodge the whole time either! On the contrary, we implore you to get out and discover our beautiful corner of the Carolinas by checking out some of our beloved public recreation areas. To give you a little nudge, we’ve put together a summary of our three favorite state parks near Murrells Inlet.

Myrtle Beach State Park

Nestled along the Grand Strand coastline, Myrtle Beach State Park offers visitors a tranquil escape from the beachside hustle and bustle with abundant green space, interpretive education, and some of the best surf fishing in the state. Furthermore, a unique maritime forest awaits your exploration via a convenient hiking trail. There are also plenty of designated areas for picnics, as well as a fishing pier.

Huntington Beach State Park

Another Grand Strand coastal destination, Huntington Beach State Park, is characterized by iconic landmarks, vibrant ecology, and awe-inspiring views. Wildlife enthusiasts will be delighted to know Huntington Beach is home to several loggerhead turtles and other endangered animal and plant species. Huntington Beach also has a series of nature trails that make up approximately two and a half miles of easy hiking.

Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge

While technically not one of the state parks in SC, Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge is an astounding wildlife sanctuary that provides a gamut of outdoor recreation activities. For example, you could go hunting, birding, and fishing all in one day! Waccamaw boasts over 6,500 acres of freshwater tidal marshes that are extremely rare ecosystems and are some of the world’s most biologically diverse habitats.
